Local Cyclist Dies After Suffering Cardiac Event at Portland Race

(6-9-10) 47-year-old David Oliphant, collapsed after crossing the finish line following a race at Portland International Raceway on Tuesday, June 8. Oliphant was attended to immediately by on-scene medics, but doctors were not able to revive him after he was rushed to the hospital. Recent reports indicated that his death was caused by a heart-related condition.

Oliphant was a veteran cycling competitor on the road and track who was racing alongside his brother Duncan on Tuesday night.
