(3-29-10) Vancouver, Washington will have a new marathon in 2011. The Vancouver USA Marathon will debut on Sunday, June 19, 2011 and will be accompanied by a Health and Fitness Show at the Vancouver Hilton that will be held during the two days prior.
The event will be one of only two marathons in the Portland and Southwest Washington market – the other being the Portland Marathon, which will be held this year on October 10.
The marathon will start in downtown Vancouver between the Vancouver Hilton and Esther Short Park and will finish with a post-race celebration in the same location. According to Race Director Brian Davis of Energy Events, "The course is truly a gem, with a gorgeous run along the mighty Columbia River, out to Vancouver Lake and through the Port of Vancouver. We are truly proud of what we will have to offer runners and are very appreciative of the support and the enthusiasm that the community has shown thus far." The course will wind back downtown and through our Historic Fort Vancouver and National Park across the Highway 14 to Wintler Park. The runners will meander through downtown Vancouver and end at Esther Short Park where participants will enjoy the post-race festivities.
